1000+ Views!

About two weeks ago (Feb 20th), I logged into Blogger and glanced at the stats for the GosuDad blog and saw this:

Now admittedly, likely the 1000th or at least the 1001st page view was myself. And quite likely a chunk of the total views are from some web crawlers - it seems like there's one in Russia and some from various Spanish-speaking countries.

And given how long the blog has been running (almost 8 months), that's only about 4 hits a day.

But besides all those factors - I was still quite excited :)

I have really enjoyed writing posts (and doing the "homework" for them), and it's encouraging to see that others are enjoying what's published! Looking at the stats today, we're over 1100 views!

So a big thanks to all of you readers out there and especially those who have left comments - your interactions really add to the little corner of SC2 where people blog about their favorite e-Sport :)

    1. Please don't be :) I simply did not expect people I didn't know (much less people from another country) to find my blog, and then be interested in it. I can be rather timid sometimes about my expectations...

Actually if all the hits from Spain are from you, then you've contributed to over 10% of my hits! So a big kudos to you! (and your fellow Spaniards!)

Do you have any relation to the Spanishiwa from the states?

  4. Does this also report views through RSS feed readers? I am not sure how my viewing habits affects your count. At any rate, keep up the good work! Its a ton of fun to read your analysis and watch the live casts and replays!

    1. I'm not sure about the feed readers - and now that I've added buttons for both feed readers and emails, I wonder if it counts any hits from either of those. I'm guessing it does not.

So if you want to help my hits, I guess you can click on the link in your reader or email to bring up the web page itself. Though I'm not sure it helps with publicity any, since I don't post those stats...

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm glad people enjoy what content I've provided - now I just need to get back to publishing it!

    1. 3 people? That's awesome! I feel so gosu now :)

Spanishiwa is indeed a Zerg player from the US (Liquipedia link below). I first heard about him when his no-gas-fast-expand "Ice Fisher" build was the new shiny - going without gas until his 3rd expansion (or later!) - and using only queens and spine crawlers to defend.

I heard an interview with him before his first MLG (Anaheim 2011). At the time, he hadn't decided whether or not to go "pro" (he was just about to start college) and was going to see how he did at MLG before deciding. I believe at the time, he said he'd have to get top 32 before he'd decide to go pro. I don't think he made it - and thought it was an interesting story - it's not an easy decision to pursue a hobby competitively.

So I was happily surprised to just read the wiki entry and see that he continued to compete, eventually making top 32 at MLG Providence 2011, and is now on Team Vile!

  6. Hey! I'm from Mexico and I often visit this (and most other SC2 blogs of SC2). So I feel offended too. Just because our native languages are not the same doesn't mean I have to be a bot.

You should know that USA and Korea are not the only ones who play starcraft.

    1. Hi Yunkel!

First, a big thanks for being such a regular visitor to my blog! I appreciate all the hits - and now, all the comments!

The first SC2 blog that I found (and it encouraged me to blog myself) was So I Suck At Starcraft (see the sidebar for a link) and that blogger is from Denmark - so I am definitely aware that others outside the US and Korea play SC2 :)

Just as with my apparently huge following in Spain, please don't feel offended! Until Ethereal(511) commented and publicly followed my blog (and please check his blog out too!), I honestly expected that only a few of my friends and family read my blog posts.

The first time I saw referring URLs from other countries, it appeared that my blog was being re-posted on sites w/ seemingly random sets of posts. That led me to believe that all my hits were from web crawlers.

Some of the hits from other countries were 1 or 2 at a time, so I figured (hoped?) those "might" be real people. But 8 hits in one day from Mexico in the span of a few minutes? Could that possibly be a real person?

Well, your comment proves my doubts wrong - heh, and now leads me to believe I may very well have several readers in Russia... perhaps I'll be hearing from them next :)

  7. Ah yes! about those 8 hits in just a few minutes.

If you really want to know the story here it is (very touching and with a happy ending btw):

I am Yunkel the Stalwart, a protoss player (recently demoted to gold) my goal is to one day sit atop on the diamond league in order to unleash hell to those so called masters. To accomplish this noble task, I had to set myself on a quest in pursuit of knowledge and tips from other players kind enough to have blogs where they share ther experiences of both glorious victories and shameful defeats.

Alas! I was not able to find such sites in my native language, fortunately years of intensive playing of RPGs gave me, far from good, but at least enough understanding of the language they call English. This allowed me to cross borders and go where no other man of my country has ever gone. I know I´m an outsider in these lands, in fact people here look at me suspiciously, they whisper bad things about me, some even call me a web bot in hopes to crush my resolve and make me fall in the eternal labyrinth of despair.

But it´s ok, even as tears of sadness depart from my already tired eyes, my resolve will endure, I will not retreat nor surrender. The Stalwart will show how stalwart he is.

At my house I dedicate all the time to play games, just as God did command me, he said,"Yunkel I need a man to play as many videogames as posible in his entire life, can you do it? Can I trust this to you?". I nodded.

So I almost never check/visit blogs there. At my job, however, I have plenty of time to do that. Problem is that, as any normal job, we are suposed to be working, not reading blogs.

When I first find a blog I read all it´s post, but many people visit my office, so when I´m happily and innocently reading and someone enters, I have to quickly close the browser with a sharp alt + f4 (No evidence, no crime) attend the visitors and as soon as I get rid of them, reopen the browser and take where I left.

So now you know sir. I did not do it on purpose, that day I got many visits while reading your older posts and I had to be careful not to get caught. :)

    1. Wow! That was an epic (and very touching) story!

I must say the stats on Blogger don't have the granularity of a few minutes, more like within a few hours. So those 8-ish hits were spread over an hour or two - which would match your story completely!

In my initial searches, I also found it hard to find SC2 blogs that were currently being contributed to. The blogosphere is littered with the remains of grand intentions!

It also appeared to me that many content producers (and consumers) prefer videos over the written format. But I think there may be many other viewers like you, who can't (for whatever reason) view their content with audio turned on - and I believe that the written format definitely has its place!

I should also say that although I appreciate your readership - please don't let it get in the way of your work :)
